Get ready for the change

Business – and the use of the existing AfterPay logo – will continue as usual up to the date of the change.

The Riverty brand will be introduced from October 4th onwards. It’s on this date that you should make the changes on your webshop. This includes changing the logo to a new co-branded logo.

Both the AfterPay brand and the Riverty brand will appear in your checkout so people can still identify their preferred BNPL provider. It looks like this:

This co-branded logo will be used for a limited period of time and cover the months before, during and after the peak season. We will transition to the pure Riverty logo and branding in all touchpoints in March 2023.

Checkout best practice

To ensure loyal consumers are able to easily find their way to their favorite Buy now, pay later brand, we tested what the optimal scenario would be when introducing the new logo.

The optimal scenario

We asked more than 2,000 shoppers their opinion on how best to present the co-branded logo and description.
The following scenario showed the optimal result from the test:

A remarkable 96% efficiency level

Without any previous brand introduction, this scenario achieved a score of 96% of the current situation (AfterPay logo + description “Pay Later”). This means only 4 in 100 people who intend to Pay Later / Pay with AfterPay would not immediately select this new co-branded option.

Legal name change

Your contractual partner will change from Arvato Finance B.V. to Riverty GmbH on October 4th.

Communication with consumers

From mid-August until 4th October, we will start informing active and first-time users about how their favorite Buy now, pay later brand is evolving for the future.

Consumers everywhere will be informed via e-mail, MyAfterPay, the AfterPay app & other touchpoints, and a new website will reveal the brand story before the launch.

A major launch campaign

Once the brand is officially launched, there will be an extensive consumer-directed communication campaign to put Riverty on the map. We will be investing in brand recognition while explaining how Riverty is a trusted payment solution that contributes to easier shopping experiences.

Timings

The roll out and news of the new Riverty brand name will happen as follows;

Mid-August

we will begin to inform our new and active users about the changeover and how Riverty will be launched on October 4th.

Up to 3rd October

nothing visibly changes – you’ll continue to use the existing AfterPay logo on webshops, apps and elsewhere.

On 4th October

we’ll all switch to the new name: Riverty. In specific touchpoints we will keep a presence of the AfterPay brand.

From 4th October

to ensure that AfterPay’s active users come along for the ride and transfer their trust and allegiance to the new brand, the transition to Riverty will be a soft one.

Consumers will also encounter the new brand when they select Riverty at the checkout alongside AfterPay.

How do I know if my webshop is connected via a partner, plugin or direct integration?

Take the test above. Depending on your answers, you will be taken to the precise instructions as to what you need to change on your website.

How do I change things on the website?

In some cases, a good deal of the changes required will happen automatically, or after you’ve updated a plugin. However, where this is not an automatic process, you will have to make the changes via your Content Management System (CMS). Alternatively, you should ask the moderator of your webshop to update the necessary information.

About the transition to Riverty

When will Riverty be launched?

The official rollout of Riverty is planned for October 2022. All our channels will be updated and you as a merchant will be asked to update logos, links and other reference points to our new brand. We will accompany this with a widespread advertising, Social-media, marketing and PR campaign.

What will happen to AfterPay and other brands like Paigo, AQOUNT and other regional brands?

Our existing products and brands have a proven track record. Our new strategy will build on their respective strengths and continue their successes. We will update you on the future of specific brands in the near future.

When will the AfterPay brand be replaced with the Riverty brand?

The new brand will launch on October 4th. Before then, we will communicate the change to our existing user base to ensure a smooth transition from AfterPay to Riverty, in every market.

When will I hear more about the next steps of the transformation?

In the coming months we will publish more information about our transformation. Some details may change over time, but you can expect to have the full picture by October 2022.

When will I be provided with all necessary assets to change?

You will receive a migration package with all material needed until mid-August 2022, so you have enough time to adapt the systems and processes accordingly.

What is my role as a customer in this process?

We will keep you updated by our key account managers and through our social media channels. They will contact you in the coming months. Our clients and merchants are an important part of our transformation as we strive to stay close to you and your customers’ needs. This will involve even stronger collaboration with our partners to support people in their daily financial lives.

How will AfterPay communicate about Riverty to shoppers/consumers?

In the coming months, we will get in touch with the active user base to inform them about the change. Once the brand is launched, we will also launch a campaign to put Riverty on the map. By doing this we want to invest in the brand recognition of Riverty, supporting you in easy shopping experiences with a trusted payment solution.

What will Riverty do differently from Arvato Financial Solutions in the future?

Riverty is more than just a name change. Riverty puts people and their needs at the centre of all thinking and action - this is the core element of the new corporate strategy. What changes will apply for your customers?

From a technical point of view, initially things won't change significantly for our customers. The new company name is Riverty. Our transformation promises continuous innovations in the coming months, faster implementation and even more self-service.

Our customers and merchants are an important part of our transformation as we focus on staying close to them and their customers' needs. This includes working more closely with our partners to support people in their daily financial lives. Riverty will operate primarily in the B2B sector and builds on our existing relationships with clients/merchants. Our business model will remain the same, but we will approach it in a more personal way.

What will change for consumers?

Consumers get a better overview of Riverty's services, but above all of their personal financial situation. By bringing the individual entities together under Riverty, we create the greatest possible transparency and help consumers make the best of their financial lives – in the best possible simplest and effective way.

In some markets, brands or business units are still operating under their old names.
What is the reason for this? Will there be a change of name at a later stage, and if so, when?

In fact, after 4 October there will still be units that will operate in the market under their previous name. Apart from our portfolio businesses, BFS Health Finance and BFS finance GmbH, which will continue to operate as independent companies in terms of business model, structures, product and technology development, this primarily concerns the collection companies in Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and the United Kingdom.

"To help you live your best financial life" - this sentence contains a clear ambition to serve people. To support them also in times when things get difficult. A positive message that we fill with life through our products, our behaviour and our entire activities as a company. Our Buy now, pay later products and our accounting services already meet this aspiration. We make it easier for people to manage their finances, provide transparent overview and help our customers build lasting relationships with their end consumers. The switch to Riverty for these product areas in all markets will therefore take place on 4 October.

In receivables management, we enter into direct contact with consumers. The starting point is usually a rather difficult situation, usually when they cannot pay their debts. It is precisely at this point that we have to credibly fulfil our promise and offer people appropriate solutions. In order to really be able to live up to our own expectations in receivables management, we need a certain degree of maturity in our local debt collection products and the associated processes. This includes communication with consumers, self-service options in consumer portals and dealing with the individual needs of consumers. We have assessed the maturity of our debt collection units using a comprehensive set of criteria to determine which units already meet Riverty's standards and where there is still potential for optimization. Therefore, our debt collection companies in Germany and the Netherlands will start operating under the Riverty on 4 October. For the other debt collection countries we have worked out a detailed optimization plan. As soon as the necessary steps have been implemented, the units in Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and the UK will also gradually be part of Riverty.

Is Paigo alongside Arvato Financial Solutions being replaced by Riverty?
Why is the brand disappearing from the market after such a short period of time?

Riverty will combine forces within its own structures and unleash synergies. The new brand includes all services of Arvato Financial Solutions. This includes our accounting solutions and international debt collection, our German debt collection brand Paigo and our BNPL offering under the brand AfterPay.
About the business

Are you going to support our business as it is not focused on the relation between Riverty and consumer?

Riverty will first of all continue to work B2B. Arvato Financial Solutions wants to build on existing relationships with clients/merchants. It will not move itself between the client/merchant and the consumer. The human aspect is mainly in how we shape our activities: by designing ourselves around the needs of your consumers. Our business model stays the same, but will be approached in a more personal way.

How will Riverty benefit me as a merchant?

With united capabilities, Riverty will have more possibilities. We connect data from different services in the financial value chain to develop innovative products and services. A united brand also offers the opportunity for more reach. We will unite our communication efforts to become even more known and respected. This will in its turn increase the trust in your webshop.

Will the AfterPay offering change?

We will keep servicing you as we do today. The products and services we are known and loved for will still be part of our offering. Even though our brand is becoming more than BNPL, we will work with you at the size of your business. Within BNPL we will keep innovating like before to lead the market. With new products like ‘Split’ and new tools like the improved Merchant Dashboard.
